The use of Hindi language in South Indian states has always been a sensitive issue. Now Ashwin's comments are likely to spark a fresh debate at a time when several opposition parties, including Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK, have accused the Center of trying to impose Hindi in states, especially in the south.

Ashwin told the students to 'never give up and stay true to your path even in times of doubt.' He said- 'If an engineering staff had told me that I can't be a captain, I would have worked harder. If you are a student you will never stop. If you don't stop, learning will stop and excellence will become just a word in your closet.'

After that match, Ashwin came to the press-conference along with Rohit Sharma and announced his retirement in the same press-conference. He said that 'I am retiring from all formats of cricket.
