Jorge Martín is now a MotoGP champion: “My parents fought hard so that I could fulfil my dream”

The rider, who becomes the fifth Spaniard to be crowned MotoGP world champion and the first Madrid native in history, remembered his family.

Jorge Martin can now breathe and shout from the rooftops that he is the new MotoGP world champion . After a race in which Pecco Bagnaia , his main rival throughout the championship and the last winner of the title, led from start to finish . The Madrid native was true to his style throughout the year and chose to be consistent and not take risks when it was not appropriate and with the third place he finished he became the new king of motorcycling.

Once the race was over and after his subsequent celebration on the track evoking Terminator, because of his nickname ‘Martinator’ , and crying with emotion when seeing his family and team, he had to attend the press conference. ” I can only dedicate this to all the people who have supported me since the first day I started riding a motorcycle, to my father and my mother, my brother, my grandfather, my whole family, all the teams that have given me opportunities” was the first thing the Madrid native said.

His gratitude to his entire family did not end there, because thanks to them he was able to become what he is today, a true champion. “I have not had an easy road. We all know where I come from, my parents have fought hard so that I could fulfil my dream, which was to be MotoGP world champion . It has not been easy for me, but that has made me stronger. If it had been easy, perhaps I would have given up earlier. Here we are . I have already achieved the dream of my life. I could stop tomorrow, I would be the happiest person in the world, but there is still a long way to go. I hope that Martinator will be around for a while,” said the Spaniard.

Martin was very close to winning the title last year, but fell short at the important moments. However, this year he improved his mental strength, which has been key to the consistency he has shown throughout the season. “ My biggest fear was never becoming MotoGP world champion. I have achieved it. I have worked hard this year, learning to race while admitting that I might not win, to get rid of that fear of not winning , thanks to my psychologist, he has helped me a lot to change that fear of losing for the illusion of winning. That is what I have learned this year and what I hope to continue doing,” confesses the new champion.

He even had a few words for his great rival this year, Pecco Bagnaia, with whom he has maintained an incredible pulse on the asphalt, but they have shown great respect off it. “We were thick as thieves when we were kids. I was happy for him last year. There is no point in us getting on bad terms. He said he would be happy for me if I won the World Championship . I’ll invite him to the party, then if he wants to come…”, said the new world champion, laughing, not wanting to forget the people who have always been with him, even in the bad times he has suffered.
