Alcaraz reaches Australian Open quarter-finals: Britain's rival Draper retires with injury; Goff-Sabalenka also won

Spain's Carlos Alcaraz has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open men's singles. Alcaraz's opponent, British No. 1 Jack Draper, retired with an injury in the fourth round.

15th-seeded Draper was trailing 7-5, 6-1 against four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena when his injury worsened and he retired.

Earlier, 23-year-old Draper had to leave the court for medical treatment after the first set due to a hip injury.

Alcaraz gave Draper a hug and said goodbye.

Sabalenka defeated Andreeva 6-1, 6-2 In the women's singles, world number one Aryna Sabalenka continued her impressive run at Melbourne Park to book a place in the quarter-finals on Sunday. He won in straight sets. Previous two-time champion Sablenka defeated Russia's Mira Andreeva 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth round.

Sabalenka greeted the audience with her hands raised after the victory.

Bopanna's pair got a walkover Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and Chinese partner Zhang Shuai advanced to the mixed doubles quarterfinals after getting a walkover in their second-round match on Sunday. Bopanna and Shuai were competing against American Taylor Townsend and Monaco's Hugo Nieves, but the pair did not turn up to play.

History of the Australian Open The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the year. The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia started the tournament in 1905, which was previously known as the Australian Championships. The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia later became Tennis Australia. After this, the Australian Championship was renamed the Australian Open. From 1969 this tennis tournament became officially known as the Australian Open.

It's the first Grand Slam of the year There are 4 Grand Slams in tennis. All four are held annually, starting with the Australian Open in January. The French Open is held in May and June. Wimbledon is held in July and the US Open in August-September. The US Open is the last Grand Slam of the year.
