Former Indian cricketer Syed Abid Ali's death: played 34 matches for India; Took 397 wickets in first class

Former Indian cricketer Syed Abid Ali died in the United States on Wednesday. He was 83 years old. Syed represented India in 34 matches. Syed was born on September 9, 1941 in Hyderabad. He took 397 wickets in first-class cricket.

Syed debuted for India in Adelaide in December 1967. He took 6 wickets in his first match, which was the best performance of his career. He also played 78 and 81 runs in Sydney. Syed played Test cricket until 1974. He took 47 wickets in this format and scored 1018 runs.

Test debut against Australia Abid Ali made a Test debut against Australia in 1967-68. In the match played in Brisbane, he took 6 wickets for 55 runs. The Hyderabad player was also known as 'Chicha'. He also coached the Andhra Pradesh Ranji team as well as the Maldives and the UAE cricket team.

Abid Ali has coached the UAE team.

Pouring water on a roller for fielding practice Syed was known for the fast race between wickets. He was pouring water on the roller at the Fateh Maidan of Hyderabad (now known as Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium) and practicing to catch the ball on it.

Took 397 wickets in first class Syed Abid Ali played only 5 ODIs, but 3 of them were in the first one-day World Cup played in 1975. He scored 70 off 98 balls against New Zealand. Abid took 397 wickets in the first class and also scored 8732 runs in 212 matches. The best score of his career was 173*.
