Gujarat wins due to Siraj-Hunda's performance: beat Hyderabad by 7 wickets; Gill played captaincy innings

Gujarat Titans beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets in the 20th match of IPL-18. This is the fourth consecutive defeat of Hyderabad this season.

Batting first at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad scored 152 for 8. Nitish Kumar Reddy (31 runs) and Henrick Classen (27) scored. Siraj took 4 wickets from Gujarat.

Gujarat scored a target of 153 runs by 3 wickets in 16.4 overs. Captain Shubhman Gill played an unbeaten 61 -run innings, while Sherfen Rutherford was unbeaten on 35. Washington Sundar scored 49 runs. Mohammad Shami took 2 wickets, while captain Pet Cummins took one wicket.

1. The Match of Player

Gujarat won the toss and bowled first; Mohammad Siraj came to put the first over and dismissed Opener Travis Head. He then grabbed Abhishek Sharma's catch and took his 100th wicket in the IPL. Siraj did not let Hyderabad score big in the powerplay. He also took 2 wickets in his second spell.

Mohammad Siraj said-

I enjoy bowling. I've done a lot of work on my fitness, and now I feel fresh. If the ball swings, it becomes easier to take a wicket. The wicket was a bit slow. I tried to attack the stump as much as possible.

2. The hero of victory

  • Sai Kishore: Bowling in the middle over, Sai Kishore took 2 wickets and prevented Hyderabad from scoring big. He sent Henrick Classen and Nitish Kumar Reddy back to the pavilion cheaply.
  • Shubhman Gill: The team lost Sai Sudarshan's wicket early in reply to 153 runs. Captain Shubhman Gill then added 90 runs with Washington Sundar. Gill played the captaincy innings and scored an unbeaten 61.
  • Washington beautiful: Sundar batted aggressively on a pitch for Hyderabad, which was suitable for the pace bowlers. He took the SRH run rate from 5 to 8. However, he could not fulfill his fifty and was dismissed for 49 off 25 balls.

3. Fighter of the Match

Captain Pet Cummins performed well in both batting and bowling sections for Hyderabad. Batting at number 8, he scored 22 off just 9 balls and took 1 wicket in the bowling, giving 14 runs in 3 overs.

4. The Turning Point

Cummins gave the last over of Powerplay to Simrajit Singh. In this over, Washington Sundar took 20 runs from Simrajit's over. From here, the batting of Gujarat got pace. Sundar hit two fours on the first two balls, then hit the sixth and sixth ball.

Simrajit Singh gave up 20 runs in the first over. The captain did not give him a chance to bowl.

5. Match report

Due to the best spell of Mohammad Siraj's IPL career, the Hyderabad team was able to score 152 for 8 in 20 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy scored the highest 31 runs from the team. Abhishek Sharma and Aniket Verma contributed 18-18 runs.
