Is Pakistan ready for hybrid model in Champions Trophy?

Champions Trophy 2025: Another update has come out on Champions Trophy 2025 that Pakistan has agreed to the hybrid model, but it has also laid down some conditions for India. It has talked about a written agreement for this.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said respect for Pakistan is important

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, while talking to the media in Dubai on Sunday, said, ‘We will do whatever is best for cricket, if we adopt any other formula (apart from hosting the tournament in Pakistan) then it will be done on the basis of equality. The most important thing for Pakistan is its respect, everything else has been talked about.

Naqvi had said – One-sided system is no longer acceptable. It cannot be that we keep going to India, but they do not go to Pakistan, whatever happens, it should be on the basis of equality.

BCCI maintains silence on Champions Trophy

According to the report – BCCI has maintained silence in the Champions Trophy case, but there are indications that it is not ready to adopt a hybrid model for the tournament organized here. On the other hand, the ICC Board will hold a meeting on PCB’s proposal before taking a final decision on the Champions Trophy. While both the PCB and BCCI will have to get that decision confirmed by their respective governments, the ICC has set December 5 as the date for that meeting.

Overall, the options for the tournament are the same as in the board meeting last week. Either the tournament will be based on a hybrid model in which Team India will play its matches outside Pakistan, or the entire tournament will be held in another country, or the tournament will be held without India. In the meeting held last week, it was decided to give time to the PCB to hold separate talks with the BCCI, so that a solution can be found.

The BCCI had told the ICC that the Indian government has refused to allow Team India to travel to Pakistan. Last Friday, a spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that “security reasons” meant that India was not ready to travel.

Jay Shah will chair the ICC meeting

Jay Shah, who has been the BCCI secretary since 2019, took over as ICC President on December 1. ICC deputy chairman Imran Khawaja is handling the Champions Trophy issue as interim chairman, but it is not confirmed who will be the BCCI representative at the next ICC board meeting. The meeting is believed to be on the Champions Trophy, although it is also being said that it could be a courtesy visit to start Shah’s tenure.
