When asked if retiring was a difficult decision, the veteran spinner said, ‘It is not like that. It is emotional for many people. For me, it is a matter of relief and satisfaction. It was going on in my mind for a long time, I felt it on the fourth day and accepted it on the fifth day.’
Ashwin retired from international cricket a day earlier on Wednesday, 18 October. He announced his retirement in the press conference after the Gabba Test was drawn. Ashwin’s wife along with daughters reached the airport to receive him. She did not go inside the airport and waited in the car for him to come out. After coming out, Ashwin sat in his black Volvo car and left for home. He was welcomed at home with flowers and garlands and ‘Band Baaja’. Here the relatives hugged him.
