Australian media called Kohli a joker

Virat Kohli was mocked by the Australian media after his clash with debutant Sam Constas in the Melbourne Test. The West Australian newspaper on Friday featured Virat Kohli as a joker on its back page and called him Clown Kohli meaning Joker Kohli.

The newspaper said that an Indian coward collided with a boy making a dream debut, for which he was fined.

One newspaper said that the fine imposed on Kohli after the clash with Constas was too low. Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said that the Australian media always acts as the supporting staff of the cricket team. This is not correct.

Kohli clashed with Constas, fined 20% of match fee

Virat Kohli hit Australia’s batsman Sam Constas on the shoulder.

After the 10th over, there was an argument between Consta and Virat. The umpire had to calm the matter down.

19-year-old opener Sam Konstas made his debut for Australia on the first day of the Melbourne Test. Kontas scored a fifty in her debut match. Meanwhile, Kohli hit him on the shoulder and argued with him. The ICC then fined Kohli 20% of his match fee. He was also given one demerit point.

Former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan called the Australian media’s stand wrong. Gavaskar said this is wrong. Australian media has always been the supporting staff of its cricket team.

Ponting said- Kohli got less punishment

Commenting on Channel 7, former captain Ricky Ponting said, ‘Releasing Kohli may affect the future. I don’t think this is a harsh punishment for a legend like Kohli.’

Gavaskar said – Australia uses the Kohli brand

Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said that ‘You use a legendary player like Kohli to promote cricket in your country, then you call the same cricketer a joker. The Australian media has always been the sporting staff of the Australian team.’

Irfan said- Calling Kohli a joker is not acceptable

Commenting on Star Sports, former cricketer Irfan Pathan said, ‘Kohli’s behavior cannot be called appropriate, but it is not appropriate for the Australian media to target Virat in this way. It is not appropriate to call a veteran cricketer like Virat a joker. This cannot be accepted.’

Gavaskar’s question – Penalty on only 2, Kohli also given demerit points

Gavaskar also criticized the ICC’s lesser sentence as wrong. He said that four such incidents have taken place this year. Josh Hazlewood was fined 15 percent of his match fee for such an incident. Jasprit Bumrah has also been fined 15 percent. Along with 20 percent penalty, Virat Kohli has also been given one demerit point.

Kohli got angry with the TV journalist

Virat refused to pose for photos of his children to TV journalists at the Melbourne airport.

On December 19, Virat Kohli got angry with a Channel 7 female journalist at the Melbourne airport. They were refusing the media to take photographs of the family, but a Channel 7 reporter took a photo. Kohli arrived at the Melbourne airport with wife Anushka Sharma and children (Vamika and Akay).

Meanwhile, a journalist of the Australian channel ‘Channel-7’ made a video of it. Virat requested the female journalist to run his pictures but delete the pictures of his family, but the journalist did not listen to Kohli. On that Australian media said that the airport is public property, where photographs can be taken.

Jadeja did not respond to the Australian media in English

Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder of the Indian team who went on a tour to Australia, held a press conference on December 21 before the fourth Test. In this press-conference, Jadeja gave answers to the Australian media not in English, but in Hindi. After this he ended the press-conference early by asking to catch a bus. The Australian media continued to criticize Jadeja’s press conference as awkward. Channel-7 called it a strange press-conference.

The Monkeygate incident took place during the 2008 series

  • Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds clashed during the Indian team’s tour of Australia in 2007-08.
  • The match was being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
  • Symonds alleges that Bhajji called him a monkey. This phenomenon is called ‘Monkeygate’.
  • According to ICC rules this was a racial remark.
  • A hearing was held in front of the match referee. Harbhajan got a clean chit.
