Bangladesh squad announced for Champions Trophy: Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das out, Shanto to lead

The Bangladesh squad for the Champions Trophy, which starts next month, has been announced. Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das have been left out of the squad announced on Sunday. All-rounder Afif Hussain, fast bowler Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmood also failed to make a place in the team.

37-year-old Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in international and domestic cricket for an illegal bowling action. He failed a test of his bowling action at Loughborough University in England last month and another independent test conducted recently in Chennai also found his bowling action negative.

The Champions Trophy will start from February 19. The Bangladesh team will play their first match against the Indian team on February 20. The team will play against New Zealand on February 20 and Pakistan on February 27.

Shakib in the final stages of his career Shakib Al Hasan is in the final phase of his career. His ODI career may also end due to not being selected in the squad for the Champions Trophy. Shakib announced his retirement from Test and T20 cricket in September last year in Kanpur.

Questions were raised over the action in the county Shakib, who retired from Test and T20 cricket, was reported for a questionable bowling action during a match for Surrey in the County Championship last September.

Liton Das out due to poor performance Apart from Shakib, experienced wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das has also not been given a place in the squad. He has been kicked out due to poor performance. Lytton did not score a single half-century in the last 13 ODI innings. He last scored more than 50 runs against India in Pune in October 2023.

Leadership responsibility to Shanto; Return of Rahim, Rehman and Hridaye The team will be led by Nazmul Hussain Shanto who is also returning to the team after being ruled out due to injury. Along with Nazmul, veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman and top-order batsman Tauheed Hriday have also made a comeback.
