Bumrah may get rest against England: Rohit-Kohli to be decided in selection committee meeting

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may be rested

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may be rested for the ODI and T20 series against England. The English team is visiting India before the Champions Trophy. The team has to play 5 T-20 and 3 ODIs here. The series is starting from 22nd January.

India Today reports that Bumrah is being rested as part of workload management. He has bowled 141.2 overs in four Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches. One match of the series is still left.

A day ago, Rohit Sharma had admitted the excessive workload on Bumrah.

Rohit said-

Bumrah has bowled too much. We have to think about managing the workload of all the bowlers. However, when a player is in his peak form, he should be used as much as possible. We did the same with Bumrah. A lot of times we have to be careful about fast bowlers, we can’t get them to bowl consistently. Even with Bumrah, we were very careful with the workload. I kept talking to him even during the match whether he was feeling fit to bowl or not.

Jasprit Bumrah has nominated for the ICC Cricketer of the Year Award on Tuesday, December 30. He is part of the Indian team playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Bumrah has taken the most wickets in BGT-2024. He has taken 30 wickets in 8 innings of 4 Tests.

The availability of Rohit-Kohli will be decided in the meeting

The report quoted a source as saying that the decision on captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli playing the ODI series against England will be taken at the selection committee meeting.

Rohit Sharma has scored only 31 runs in 3 matches against Australia while Kohli has scored 167 runs in 4 matches.

If Bumrah is rested, he will have to go into the Champions Trophy without practice. Because, Jaspreet played his last ODI match on 19 November 2023 in Ahmedabad. It was the final match of the ODI World Cup. Bumrah took 2 wickets in that match.

Cricket Australia has honoured Jasprit Bumrah and Nitish Reddy despite the big loss in the Melbourne Test. The names of Bumrah and Nitish are written in the honor board of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The BCCI on Tuesday released a video of Bumrah and Reddy’s names being written on the honour board.
