The International Cricket Council (ICC) has changed the rules for catching the boundary. This change is related to the catch taken while bouncing off the ball outside the boundary. The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) will include this change from October 2026, while the ICC will include this rule from next month. This rule will be implemented from the Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which starts on June 17.
There will be 2 terms if the ball jumps out of the boundary
First On many occasions, players standing on the boundary were bouncing once in the air when the ball was inside the boundary, then crossed the boundary and bounced in the air and came inside the boundary and caught it. This will no longer be considered a catch and the batsman will get a run.
બીજી If a player goes beyond the boundary, jumps into the air and throws the ball inside, and then the other player grabs it, it will only be valid if the player throwing player is also inside the boundary.
Michael Nesar's boundary catch was questioned in the Big Bash League In 2023, Michael Neser took a catch on the boundary in the Big Bash League (BBL), which raised questions. It was only after this that the ICC asked the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) to review the rules of catching.
Explaining Nesar's catch, the MCC said that the fielder did “Bunny Hop” before completing the catch inside the boundary. Bunny Hop means when a player jumps into the air after going out of the boundary and throws the ball inside. Although these rules were, the note said that it seemed that in fact the fielder went out of boundary and bounced the ball and then caught it.
Michael Neser took a wonderful boundary catch during BB 2023, but such efforts will no longer be considered as a catch.
In 2020 there were questions about catching out on Matthew Wade's boundary in BBL During the match between Hobart Hurricens and Brisbane Heat in BBL in 2020, questions were raised about catching out on Matthew Wade's boundary. Indeed, in the first innings, Hobart Hurricane's Companes Wade played a shot on the boundary on the fourth ball of the 15th over.
Brisbane Heat's Matt Renshaw flew into the air standing on the boundary and threw the ball inside, capturing his colleague Tom Bent. The third umpire declared Wade out. However, Matt Renshaw fell out of the boundary. Questions were also raised on this catch.
Previously Melbourne Cricket Club announced 2 changes
Use 2 new balls in first-ODI The ICC applied the rule of using 2 new balls in ODI. Different balls will be used from both ends for 34 overs. After this, only one ball will be used from both ends from 35 to 50 overs. The fielding team will choose one of two balls to use for 35 to 50 overs.
If the ODI match is played under 25 overs for rain or for some other reason, only 1 ball will be used in both innings. This rule will be applicable from the ODI series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from July 2.
Second- Changes in the rule of Concession Subsituit Now before the match starts the match, the match referee will have to be named five players who will be taken for a conference replacement. The players will be a wicketkeeper, a batsman, a fast bowler, a spinner and an all -rounder.
If a player suffers a head injury and plays another player instead, he is called a Concession Replacement. When a player retires in the old rule, it was decided at that time who would be sent to his place.
The 2 -match Test series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will begin on June 17. Since then new rules will be implemented.
