Went to India to attend a family function; Second Test from December 6
Indian team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has returned to Australia. He will join the team on Tuesday. On November 26, Gautam had gone to India to attend a family function. Gautam was not a part of the team in the two-day pink ball practice match held in Canberra. India won this match by 6 wickets. The second test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played in Adelaide from December 6.
In Gambhir’s absence, the Indian team trained under the supervision of other coaching staff. Assistant coach Abhishek Nair, Ryan Ten Doeschate, bowling coach Morne Morkel trained the team. Rohit joined the team on November 24. He was on paternity leave. Rohit’s wife Ritika has given birth to a son.
Rohit Sharma can play in the middle order
Choosing the playing-11 for the second match will be the biggest headache for Gambhir. Captain Rohit Sharma has returned to the team. Shubman Gill scored a brilliant half-century in the practice match. The team can include these two players in the playing-11 in place of Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel. But the question is what will be the opening combination of the team.

In the second innings of the Perth Test, Jaiswal and KL Rahul had a double century partnership. In the Pink Ball Test too, Rahul came out to open with Jaiswal. In this match, Rohit Sharma batted in the middle order. In such a situation, in the Adelaide Test, Gill can bat at number three with the opening pair of Jaiswal-Rahul and Rohit can bat in the middle order after Virat.
