Gavaskar said- Rohit-Kohli's Test future in hands of selectors: Indian batting flop for last 6 months; Now decide the team for 2027 WTC

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that the cricketing future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is now in the hands of the selectors. Both the batsmen have been out of form for the last six months and the team's performance has gone down.

After a clean sweep at home against New Zealand and the loss of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years, the Test futures of Virat and Rohit are being questioned.

Batting flop since 6 months Gavaskar said that India could not qualify for the WTC (World Test Championship) final. The team has to think about the reasons why this happened, due to which our batting was poor. Neither could we play on the self-made spinning track nor perform well on the bouncy track.

The two main batsmen of the batting unit Rohit and Kohli proved to be the biggest weakness of the team. In BGT, Kohli scored 190 runs including an unbeaten century in 9 innings. While Rohit could score only 31 runs in 5 innings. The Indian team could not cross the 200 mark 6 times in 9 innings of the series.

Preparations have to be made now for the 2027 WTC The former cricketer said, 'The batting has been poor in the last six months and that was the main reason why we lost a match that we should have won. So, if we are to reach the finals of the 2027 WTC, the selectors will have to decide how to build the team for the Test series starting in England from June.'

75 The veteran player said, now is the time to give a chance to a player who has performed well in the domestic circuit.

Praise for Nitish's choice Gavaskar praised the selectors for choosing a talented player like Nitish Kumar Reddy. This time India scored three centuries in BGT. Apart from Nitish, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli scored centuries.

Regarding the bowlers, Gavaskar said that India has a lot of talent in the bowling attack. But it should be decided that a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah should not be overburdened.

Nitish was the second top scorer of the Indian team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025. He scored 298 runs in 9 innings.

Don't adopt a superstar culture Gavaskar said, the practice of keeping star cricketers in high positions has been a problem in Indian cricket. This has happened in the last few years. Everyone should know their role.
