Indian chess player D Gucesh has won the Rapid title in the ongoing superiyunated rapid and Blitz tournament in Zagreb, Croatia.
The tournament is part of the Grand Chess Tour 2025 and Gukesh won the title by scoring 14 of 18 points in a rapid format.
Gekesh won the rapid title by beating American player Wesley Son in 36 in the last round. Gekesh won 6 out of 9 matches in the tournament, draw 2 and faced one defeat.
Gukesh lost the first match in the tournament
In the first match of the tournament, Gukesh defeated Poland's Jan-Christoff Duda in 59 runs. After this, Gukesh returned. He defeated Alereza Firoza of France and Pragyananda of India.
Gekesh defeated Nodirback Abdustrov of Uzbekistan in the fourth round of the tournament and Caruana of America's Fabian in the fifth round.
In the sixth round, Gukesh faced Norway's Magnus Carlson, in which the Indian grandmaster won. Gukesh defeated Carlson for the second time within a month. Gekesh also defeated Carlson in the Norway Chess Tournament on June 2.

On the third day both matches were drawn
On the third day of the tournament (July 4), Gukesh had both matches. He started the day with a draw against Dutch Grandmaster Anish Giri. He then played an 87 move against Croatia's Ivan Sharik. The match was also a draw.
Pragyananda got only one win Pragyananda's performance in this tournament was not good. He scored only one win in 9 matches against Ivan Sharik. Also, he played 7 draws, while in one he suffered a defeat.
He got a total of 9 points. Pragyanand Bucharest is third in the phase winners and Wars. This is why he is still a strong contender in the overall ranking of the Grand Chess Tour.
What position did Carlson and Duda stay
Magnus Carlson started the tournament with a win against American player Fabiano Carua on the last day (July 4), but Gukesh could not challenge after Nodirbeck Abdusatrov in the next game. On the other hand, Duda, who defeated Gukesh in the first round, performed well throughout the tournament and finished second.
The tournament will now play Blitz phase
The Blitz phase of the tournament will start on Saturday and end on July 6. The overall winner will be decided on the basis of points obtained from both Rapid and Blitz formats.

World Champion D. D., in the sixth round of the ongoing Grand Chess Tournament in Zagreb, Croatia on Thursday. Gekesh defeated Norway's Magnus Carlson. Gukesh was jointly in the first place with Carlson on the first day. Now after defeating the world's No. 1, he has taken a lead with 10 points.
This is the second consecutive victory over Gukesh's Carlson. He defeated Carlson in Norway Chess last month.
