How did RCB become an IPL champion in 18 years? Learn in 5 Factors

Finally the eagerness ended … RCB has won its first title in the 18 seasons of IPL. In the final played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, he beat Punjab Kings by 6 runs and waited for the first title of PBKS.

Rajat Patidar, who was captaining for the first time in the IPL, won all the matches played by the RCB. The team won 11 matches, not 1-2 but 9 different players of the match emerged. At the bow of the bowlers, Bengaluru showed how to become a champion with the help of a strong team, not the big names.

Understand the secret of RCB's victory in 5 factors …

Factor-1

The role of each player is different

RCB's victory strategy began before the mega auction. While Mentor Dinesh Karthik plans with director Mo Bobat and coach Andy Flower and bought the best team.

RCB, who has put on big players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis, has not retained any big player except Virat Kohli this time.

On the RCB's YouTube channel, Karthik described how the management bought different players for each role. The team set the options for the best players for opening, middle order, finishing, spin -to -powerplay and death bowling. Then only the best players were purchased in the auction. If the best is not found, the other best players were purchased, but the focus was only on role-based players.

The result was that after the auction, Bengaluru formed an almost perfect team. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals also formed the same team. Punjab was a runner-up, while Delhi was out of fifth place, but by becoming an RCB champion, its auction strategy proved right.

The strike rate of 5 batters was 170+

The RCB tried 11 batters in the tournament, including batting all -rounder. The strike rate of 5 batters of them was more than 170, which means their role was to be continuously attacked. These include Romario Shepherd, Tim David, Jitesh Sharma, Jacob Bethel and Phil Salt.

RCB's 4 batters also scored more than 250 runs. Virat Kohli scored 657 runs. Phil Salt gave him a good support in the opening, scoring 403 runs at a strike rate of over 175. Devdatta Padikal, who was injured and was out of the tournament after playing 10 matches; He also scored 247 at a strike rate of 150. Captain Patidar also scored 312 runs. All four batters did not allow the pressure on the RCB's lower middle order to increase.

Even when the pressure on the finishers increased, Jitesh, David and Shepherd took advantage of the opportunity and led the team to victory. In the last match of the league stage, when the RCB had to chase 228 runs to reach the top-2, wicketkeeper Jitesh scored 85 off 33 balls and won Bengaluru.

RCB opener Phil Salt scored 403 runs at a strike rate of over 175. He won the second consecutive IPL, he also won the trophy from Kolkata in 2024.

4 bowlers took over 13 wickets The RCB has not made many changes to the bowling unit. Josh Hazelwood, Yash Dayal and Bhubaneswar Kumar were entrusted with the responsibility of handling the death over. Spinners Karnal Pandya and Suyash Sharma were assigned to stop the run in the middle overs. Both spinners run at less than 8.50 economy rate and took 25 wickets. Karnal also bowled economically in the final and took 2 big wickets for just 17 runs.

Hazelwood was only able to play 12 matches due to injury, but took 22 wickets. Along with Bhubaneswar Kumar, he did not allow the pressure on RCB bowling in the powerplay. If Bhuvi and Hazelwood never flop, the left -handed bowler Yash Dayal would come to the third spell and take a wicket. RCB fast bowlers took 64 wickets, the highest in the tournament after MI and SRH.

If all five bowlers were not successful, Romario Shepherd throws 1-2 overs and took a big wicket. Even in the final, he made Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer a coat bhinds for just 1 run and brought the RCB to the game. Shepherd scored on an economy of 11 in 8 matches, but took 6 wickets.

Factor-2

No 1-2, but 9 different heroes emerged

The best part of the campaign to win the RCB title was that 9 different players of the team became player of the match in 12 games. Even when the team lost, Tim David received the award, as his performance helped RCB reach an honorable score on a very difficult pitch.

Bengaluru's Player of the Final Karnal Pandya won the award 3 times, the highest in the team. In addition to the title match, he received the player of the match award for batting against Delhi and bowling against Kolkata. After that, Captain Rajat Patidar won 2 awards, the most successful team of both IPLs came to Mumbai and Chennai. In addition, 7 different players also became Player of the Match 1-1 times based on their performance.

Nine RCB players shone, while only 5 players from Runner-Up Punjb could become Player of the Match. The third -ranked Mumbai players and only 5 players from Gujarat became Player of the Match. This means that the team can win the match on the basis of 1 or 2 players, but to win a tournament like IPL, it is very important to perform well.

Factor-3

Winning 90% of the match outside the house

In the 18th season, Punjab and Bengaluru were the teams who won more matches outside the house than at home. Bengaluru played 10 out of 15 matches outside his house and won nine of them.

Outside the house, RCB's only defeat was against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow, in which Jitesh Sharma was captaining. Under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, the team won all 8 matches outside the house, including the win in Qualifier-1 in Mullanpur and the final against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad.

RCB started its campaign with a win in Kolkata, but the team faced two defeats at its home ground Chinnaswamy stadium. The team lost 4 matches here, after which IPL was closed due to tensions between India and Pakistan. When the tournament was resumed, Bengaluru did not receive the host's rights due to the rains. In the second phase, the RCB played all its matches outside the home ground and won all except 1.

Captain Rajat's leadership skills proved to be very useful in 90% wins outside the home. He used the bowlers according to the weaknesses of the anti -batters and also bowled spin in the powerplay whenever needed. Due to Rajat's excellent strategy, the team all out in Qualifier-1 for 101 runs and did not let the target of 191 runs in the final.

Rajat Patidar was captaining the IPL for the first time, ending the RCB's 17 -year trophy in his captaincy debut.

Factor-4

3 final lost, now successful

RCB is part of the tournament selected team, which has been playing IPL since 2008. Until 2024, the team had no trophy in the name of achievement, but the team reached the final 3 times. RCB played 3 finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016, but lost in all three.

Before 2025, for Bengaluru by coincidence, the team lost all three finals while chasing. In 2009, the RCB won the toss against the Deccan Chargers, but lost the match by 6 runs. In 2011 and 2016, the team lost the toss and had to bowl first, but lost to Chennai and Hyderabad.

For the first time in 18 seasons, RCB had a chance to bat first in the final. The team could only score 190 runs on Ahmedabad's batting friendly pitch. That was about 15-20 runs less than the score, as Punjab chased 204 runs on the same field by one over in Qualifier-1 against Mumbai. This time, however, the RCB changed its fate on the basis of its excellent bowling and stopped Punjab at 184 and won the title.

That is, it would not be wrong to say that the RCB decided to win its first IPL by defending not by chasing the score. However, before Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings (3 times) and Mumbai Indians (4 times) have also won the IPL finals.

Factor-5

Champion Kohli did not leave with

Virat Kohli, who won all ICC trophies for India, does not have the IPL trophy until 2024. Due to which it is often trolled on social media. It was said that Kohli was a curse for the RCB, until he is there, Bengaluru would not win the IPL.

Despite all this, Kohli did not leave the RCB and the franchise did not leave it. Before the 18th season, RCB retained with Rs 21 crore to Kohli. Virat scored more than 600 runs in the third consecutive season and took over batting. In the final, he played a slow 43 off 35 balls, but when the match ended, it was realized that the remaining Batters of the RCB were able to play freely without worrying about the wicket because of his innings. The team scored 190, with Kohli top scorer.

When Punjab lost his first wicket in the fifth over, Kohli started a celebrity in his traditional style. His reaction made it clear that he did not give up the hope of winning. His hopes increased with every wicket in Punjab. Even when 29 runs were to be defended in the last 6 balls, Kohli's eyes were evident.

Virat Kohli struck tears on the field after winning India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Kohli's eyes turned red as Josh Hazelwood threw two dot balls before the 20th over. He became emotional. After the match, Virat said that at that moment he saw 17 seasons of failure with RCB. He felt that the wait was successful. As soon as the match was over, Virat hid his face on the field and began to cry a lot. His tears embraced every Indian cricket fan.

When Kohli started celebrating with the trophy, it felt like the penance of every RCB fan present at the stadium was completed. The loyalty of Bengaluru fans who had been talking about 17 years, the RCB gave the trophy to the trophy. Virat, on the other hand, also became a champion in every tournament he participated within 12 months. On June 29, 2024, he won the T20 World Cup for India, he won the Champions Trophy on March 9, 2025, and now he won the IPL on June 3.
