The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to create a working group to discuss several important global issues, including the creation of each cricket format and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
It was also decided that the minimum age to participate in senior international cricket will be 15 years, but in special cases it can be reviewed. The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Chief Executive Committee (CEC) held in Singapore on Friday (July 18).
A new working group will be created A working group will be formed on Saturday. The group will include CEC and board members. Their main function will be to indicate the method of qualification for the 2028 Olympics. The ICC believes that teams can be selected on the basis of rankings, but the ICC led by Jay Shah has left the decision on the working group.
Some people are suggesting holding a qualification tournament, but this is difficult because of the time limit and busy Future Tours Program (FTP). Nevertheless, the group will be asked to examine all possible options. If the qualification is indicated on the basis of the ranking, the last date for the group ranking will also have to be specified.
International players should be at least 15 years old At a meeting chaired by the new CEO Sanka Gupta, it was also announced that the minimum age for international players will be 15 years, which has been indicated by the ICC Medical Advisory Committee. However, relaxation can be given in special situations.
Gupta Gupta was made the new CEO of the ICC on July 7.
6 men and 6 women teams will participate in the Olympics Only 6 men and 6 women teams will participate in the Olympics. There is no debate in the CEC on the 2-form system of Test cricket, but it is believed that suggestions will be sought from the executive group. Also, the group will be asked to give recommendations for changes in ODI and T20 format.
Saturday decision on USA cricket
The ICC board will decide on the future of USA Cricket (USAC). Recently a normalization committee visited the USA and asked the USA to resign, but some members of the USAC have opposed it. Since the Olympics are to be held in the USA, this decision will be very important.
The Olympic Qualification Process can be something like this The ICC has not yet taken a final decision on the qualification process of cricket for the Los Angeles Olympics of 2028. The ICC has decided to create a working group that will indicate a qualification method. This group has been asked to investigate all possible options with two main instructions:
- Qualification based on rankings: The ICC believes the team can be selected on the basis of ICC rankings. If this approach is adopted, the working group will also have to recommend the ranking cut-off date.
- Qualification Tournament: Some people are suggesting a separate qualification tournament. However, due to the busy Future Tours Program (FTP) and the time limit, this option seems difficult.
