India Open Badminton Tournament from January 14: 20 players to participate; Sindhu will play for the first time after marriage, leading the team with Lakshya

This time India will field a team of 20 players in the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament. Last season 14 players participated in this tournament. Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu will lead the Indian squad.

The tournament will be played at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall of the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi from January 14. Superstars like Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen, Anne Se Young and world number 1 player Shi Yuki will also be seen playing in this tournament.

Badminton Association of India General Secretary Sanjay Mishra issued a statement saying that the participation of so many Indian players in the Super 750 tournament shows how much Indian badminton has grown at the world level. This is indicative of the growth and rise of Indian badminton on the world stage. He further said that this is just the beginning. 2025 will be a year that will include more names along with big names.

Chirag-Satvik Sairaj will lead the men's doubles Chirag Shetty and Satviksairaj Rankireddy will lead the Indian team in men's doubles. Both the pairs reached the final last year, however, they did not manage to win. Since the Paris Olympics, Satvik has not been seen on the field much due to injury. In such a situation, it will be a big challenge for him to regain his form from this tournament.

This will be the first event after Sindhu's marriage This is the first event for PV Sindhu, who won two Olympic medals, after marriage. She married Venkat Dutta Sai from Hyderabad on December 22, 2024.

The India Open Super was part of the BWF World Tour last year The India Open Super 750 event is a major tournament organized by the Badminton Association of India. It was promoted as Super 750 in 2023 and became part of the BWF World Tour. 11000 points are awarded to whoever becomes the champion.

Women's Doubles – Trisha Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand, Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto, Rutuparna Panda/Swetaparna Panda, Manasa Rawat/Gayatri Rawat, Ashwini Bhatt/Shikha Gautam, Sakshi Gehlawat/Apurva Gehlawat, Sania Rishmidar/Ganeshar, Srimandevi/Ganeshar. Mixed Doubles- Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto, K Satish Kumar/Adya Wariath, Rohan Kapoor/G Ruthvika Shivani, Asith Surya/Amrit Pramutesh.
