Committee can take decision after Adelaide Test; Shami is playing Mushtaq Ali trophy
The Indian selectors have sought Mohammad Shami’s fitness report from National Cricket Academy (NCA) physio Nitin Patel. Shami is currently playing for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Patel is with the team during Bengal’s matches to keep an eye on his fitness.
BCCI sources told Dainik Bhaskar that the selection committee has asked for Mohammed Shami’s fitness report. Based on the report, a decision will be taken on whether to send Shami on the Australia tour or not.
Selectors were also present in the Ranji match
Nitin Patel was also present along with a selector to check Shami’s fitness in the Ranji match between Madhya Pradesh and Bengal. At that time the fitness report said that Shami needs to play a few more domestic matches. After which Shami was included in the Bengal team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The Bengal team has now played 6 matches and Shami bowled 23.3 overs in them.

Even during SMAT, the selection committee members and physio were available to monitor Shami’s fitness. The physio will soon submit his report to BCCI. After which the team management and selection committee will take a decision on sending Shami to Australia.
Shami made a comeback in Ranji Trophy match after a year
Shami made a comeback in Ranji Trophy match after almost a year. He played Ranji match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore from 13 to 16 November. Shami took 4 wickets in the first innings and 3 wickets in the second innings. With the help of which Bengal defeated MP on their home ground.

34-year-old Shami played the ODI World Cup final against Australia on 19 November 2023. After this he did not play any international match. In January this year, he underwent ankle surgery in England. For the last several months, Shami was in rehab camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. After which he returned to professional cricket in October.
