Martin Guptill retires from international cricket: Highest individual score in ODI World Cup; New Zealand's top T20 scorer

New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill retired from international cricket on Wednesday. He is the highest individual scorer in the World Cup. Guptill played an unbeaten innings of 237 runs against the West Indies in the 2015 World Cup.

Guptill has scored the most runs for the Kiwis in T20 Internationals. He is currently captaining the Auckland Aces in the Super Smash tournament. In an interview given to New Zealand Cricket, he said that playing for the Blackcaps for 14 years is the greatest honour.

It was my dream to play for New Zealand Guptill said, It was my dream to play for New Zealand since childhood. I feel lucky to have played 367 matches for my country. I would like to thank all my teammates and coaching staff. Especially Mark O'Donnell, who trained me at the under-19 stage.

Played international cricket for 14 years The 38-year-old Guptill played international cricket for New Zealand for 14 years. From 2009 to 2022, Martin Guptill played 367 matches for New Zealand, during which he also scored 23 centuries. Guptill made his international debut against West Indies in 2009.

Guptill, Kiwis' best batsman in T-20s, has scored 3531 runs in 122 T-20s. Martin has scored 7346 runs in 198 matches in ODIs. He is the third highest run-scorer for New Zealand in ODIs. Next up are Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming.

First Kiwi batsman to score a century on debut ODI Guptill, who made his debut in 2009, became the first Kiwi batsman to score a century in his first ODI. He played an innings of 122 runs off 135 balls against West Indies at Eden Park.

Guptill also holds the record for most runs scored in a match in the ODI World Cup. He scored an unbeaten 237 off 163 balls with 24 fours and 11 sixes. This is also the highest individual score by a Kiwi batsman in ODI cricket.

Played 47 Test matches Guptill played 47 Tests for New Zealand and scored 2586 runs. In which he scored 17 half-centuries and three centuries. He scored 189 against Bangladesh at Seddon Park in 2010, 109 against Zimbabwe at the Queen's Sports Club ground in Bulawayo in 2011 and 156 against Sri Lanka at Dunedin in 2015.
