New Zealand won the Hamilton Test by 423 runs: Biggest win over England

New Zealand defeated England by 423 runs in the third and final Test match at Hamilton’s Seddon Park, marking their biggest win against England by runs. Although England lost the match, they still won the three-match series 2-1 after winning the first two Tests.

On the fourth day, England started with the score of 18/2, chasing a massive target of 658 runs. Jacob Bethell scored 76 runs, followed by Joe Root, 54 and Gus Atkinson contributed 43 runs. Despite their efforts, England could only manage 234 runs in their second innings.

New Zealand’s all-rounder Mitchell Santner played a key role in this victory. He scored 76 runs and took 3 wickets in the first innings. And scored 49 runs and took 4 wickets in the second innings. Santner’s brilliant performance earned him the Man of the Match award. England’s Harry Brook was named Player of the Series.

New Zealand’s Strong Batting

New Zealand posted a solid total of 347 runs in their first innings. In response, England struggled and were all out for just 143 runs. Matt Henry led New Zealand’s bowling attack with 4 wickets, while Santner and William O’Rourke took 3 wickets each.

In the second innings, New Zealand scored a huge 453 runs and set a huge target. Kane Williamson starred with 156 runs, who was supported by Will Young and Daryl Mitchell. Both of them scored 60 runs each. Santner added 49 runs, while Tom Blundell and Rachin Ravindra chipped in with 44 runs each.

Tim Southee’s Farewell Test

This match was special as it was the final Test appearance of New Zealand’s fast bowler, Tim Southee. The 35-year-old had announced his retirement before the series. But mentioned he would return if New Zealand qualifies for the World Test Championship final.

With this victory, New Zealand got their biggest-ever win by runs, matching their 423-run triumph over Sri Lanka in 2018. The Kiwis’ dominating performance in Hamilton ensured a memorable farewell for Tim Southee and showcased the team’s growing strength.
