New Zealand win second ODI by 113 runs: 2-0 series lead against Sri Lanka; Mahish Thiksana took a hat-trick

New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 113 runs in the second ODI. Batting first on Wednesday at the Seddon Park Stadium in Hamilton, New Zealand scored 255 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka could score only 142 runs. With this result, New Zealand has taken a 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Due to rain, the match was made to 37-37 overs. Spinner Mahish Thiksana took a hat-trick for Sri Lanka, though the team could not win. Rachin Ravindra, who scored a fifty for New Zealand, was named player of the match. The third ODI will be played in Auckland on January 11.

Rachin-Chapman's Fifty New Zealand lost the toss and batted first. Will Young was dismissed for just 16 runs. Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman then shared a century to take the team's score close to 150. Rachin was dismissed for 79 runs and Chapman was dismissed for 62 runs. Wicketkeeper Tom Latham returned to the pavilion scoring just 1 run.

Daryl Mitchell then took over the innings along with Glenn Phillips and skipper Mitchell Santner. Phillips was dismissed for 22 runs and Santner for 20 runs. Mitchell scored only 38 runs, but took the team's score past 250. The team scored 255 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 37 overs.

Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman shared 112 runs for the second wicket.

Thixana becomes the seventh Sri Lankan to take a hat-trick Thiksana became the seventh Sri Lankan bowler to take a hat-trick in ODIs. Mahish completed his hat-trick by dismissing captain Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith and Matt Henry on consecutive balls. Thixana took 4 wickets in the match. Apart from that, Wanindu Hasranga got 2 wickets, Ishan Malinga got 1 wicket and Asitha Fernando also got 1 wicket. A batter was run out.

Mahish Thiksana took his first ODI hat-trick.

Sri Lanka got off to a very poor start Against a target of 256 runs, Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets for 22 runs. Pathum Nisanka 1, Avishka Fernando 10, Kusal Mendis 2 and captain Charith Aslanka scored 4 runs and got out. Kamindu Mendis took over the innings again, but no batsman could keep up with him.

Zenith Liyanag scored 22 runs, Chaminda Wickramasinghe 17, Hasaranga 1, Thiksana 6 and Malinga scored 4 runs. Mendis played an innings of 64 runs off 66 balls. William O'Rourke took 3 wickets and Jacob Duffy took 2 wickets for New Zealand. Matt Henry, Nathan Smith and Mitchell Santner went 1-1 each.

Against a big target, Sri Lanka got off to a poor start.

New Zealand achieved the target with the loss of just 1 wicket. Will Young scored 90 runs. New Zealand's Matt Henry, who took 4 wickets, was adjudged the player of the match.
