Reddy’s father touches Gavaskar’s feet

Nitish Reddy’s father Mutyala Reddy touched the feet of cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. Reddy scored the first century of his Test career on Saturday in the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) being played in Melbourne. He has made his test debut from BGT itself. His family met Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan in the media box after the century. Nitish’s father touched Gavaskar’s feet and thanked him for taking Nitish forward.

Gavaskar became emotional. He said that because of the sacrifice of Mutyala, India has got a diamond named Nitish Reddy. We know how much he has sacrificed. He has struggled a lot. Because of you I am crying. Because of you India has got a diamond, Indian cricket has got a diamond.

Nitish’s father had left his job to make him a cricketer: Nitish’s father Mutalya Reddy made a lot of sacrifices to fulfill his son’s dreams. He left his job at Hindustan Zinc in 2016 to hone Nitish’s talent. Nitish also discussed his father’s sacrifice in an interview given to BCCI TV.

Nitish said that to be honest, I was not very serious towards cricket in my childhood. My father left his job for me. Behind my story there is a lot of sacrifice from my father and family. One day I saw him crying due to lack of money. Then I realized that cricket cannot be played for fun like this.

He further said that from here I became completely serious towards cricket. I worked very hard and got results. As a middle class family, I am now proud of myself that my father is happy now.

Nitish’s father said- proud of his son: Nitish’s father said- I am really very proud of my son. He (Nitish) took my family to this position. He made our family very proud, I thank him for that. I know he is my son, but I can’t stop thanking him.

My son scored his first century at the same place where legendary cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman and Ravi Shastri had played. As a father, my eyes filled with tears. I pray to God that he scores similar centuries in future also.

Nitish’s father cried after the century: When Nitish scored his century, his father Mutyala Reddy, who was present in the stands, cried. He looked up and remembered God and folded his hands. He later said, this is a very special moment for us. Will never forget this day. Today we are very happy.

Nitish made a partnership of 127 runs with Sundar for the eighth wicket: Nitish came out to bat on the third day in Melbourne after India lost 7 wickets in the first innings. India’s score at that time was 191 runs. Team Inuiya was standing at the mouth of the followon. Nitish not only scored a century but also brought Australia’s lead close to 100 runs. He made a partnership of 127 runs with Washington Sundar.
