Former Indian cricketer and coach Ravi Shastri believes that if Rishabh Pant does not fit for wicketkeeping, he should not play in the fourth Test against England.
On the first day of the third Test, Pant suffered a finger injury, after which Dhruv Jurell took over the responsibility of wicketkeeping. India is 2-1 in the 5-match series, and team management is planning to play Pant as a batter in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Pant's injury may be serious: Shastri Shastri opposed the team management's decision. He said that if Pant plays, his injury could be worse. The injury can worsen if Pant fields. Gloves provide some protection, but if the ball is hit on the finger without gloves, the situation can worsen. He has to do both wicketkeeping and batting.
He further said that if there is a fracture, he should rest and be prepared for the last test at the Oval. If there is no fracture, it has 9 days to get healthy.
