Kapil Dev was also present at the book launch event of Syed Kirmani
India’s World Cup-winning wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani launches his book ‘Stumped’. The event took place on Sunday at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman were also present. Kirmani told about his life and cricket career in autobiography.
Penguin’s London Publications published the book. Along with Kirmani, Debashish Sengupta and Dakshesh Pathak are also the authors of the book. Infosys Chairman Narayana Murthy and Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM DK Shivakumar were also present at the event.
Cricket should be kept away from politics
DK Shivakumar said, ‘Cricket should be kept away from politics. As a cricket fan, I was in Manhattan during 1983. The next day I came to know from the newspaper that India had won the World Cup. I can never forget this.
Kirmani launches book on birthday
Syed Kirmani launched his autobiography on his 75th birthday. Along with his supporters, many of his family members were also present at the event. After the event was over, fans were also seen taking Kirmani’s autograph on the book.
Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sandeep Patil were also present at the book launch event.
3000 runs in the name of Kirmani
Wicketkeeper Kirmani played 88 Tests and 49 ODIs for India. He scored 2759 runs in Tests and 373 runs in ODIs. 48 runs was his best score in ODI. He scored 2 centuries and 12 fifties in the Test. 102 runs was his best score.
Kirmani was also a part of the team that won the ODI World Cup in 1983. In the final against West Indies, he came to bat at number 10. He played 43 balls and scored 14 runs. He also made an important partnership of 22 runs for the 10th wicket with Balwinder Sandhu, due to which Team India reached the score of 183 runs. India won the final by 43 runs.
