India changed the national sports policy after 24 years.
The Government of India has approved the new 'National Sports Policy 2025'. Through which the country will strengthen the global sports market. This will strengthen India's sports structure and the country will be able to issue its claim for the host of 2036 Olympics.
The Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, approved the policy. It will replace the previous national sports policy of 2001.
Sports will be encouraged at a basic level After the approval of the Cabinet, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandviya wrote on social media platform X, 'New policy will promote sports culture at a basic level in India. Its focus will be on enhancing the development and infrastructure of athletes. '
The policy was approved in collaboration with the Union Ministry, Policy Commission, State Governments, National Sports Federation (NSF), athletes, field experts and public stakeholders.
This policy stands at 5 strong foundations
Support-1: Strength on Global Sports Forum
- Take sports programs in villages and strengthen them. So that the talent of the children can be identified at an early stage and they can be prepared on a large platform.
- Promoting competitions and small leagues to enhance sports infrastructure in villages and cities.
- Creating a world -class system for training, coaching and supporting athletes.
- Increase the capacity of national sports unions.
- Development of technology for sports science, medicine and athlete programs.
- Develop sports coaches, technical officers, referee and support staff.
Traditional games like Mallakham will be encouraged under the NSP.
Support-2: Sports for the development of the economy
- Promoting sports tourism in India and organizing major international programs.
- Strengthening the sports production system and promoting startups in the field of sports.
- Increase private sector participation in sports programs under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP), so that there is no pressure on the government.
Support-3: Sports for Social Development
- Increase the participation of economically weaker classes, women, tribal societies and disabled people in sports.
- Promoting traditional and indigenous games.
- Make sports an alternative to sports in education, so that young people also consider sports a career.
Under the National Sports Policy, women's participation in sports will be enhanced.

- Sports will be made compulsory in all schools.
- Special training will be given to physical education teachers to raise awareness about sports in schools.
