Madison Keys of America has won the first Grand Slam Australian Open women's singles title of the year. She defeated two-time defending champion Aryana Sabalenka of Belarus 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Keys won his first Grand Slam title.
The 29-year-old Keys had earlier defeated world No.2 Iga Switek in the semi-finals. She thus became the first American player since Serena Williams to defeat two top-ranked players at Melbourne Park. Serena did this feat in 2005. Ranked 14th, Keys was seeded 19th in the tournament. This was his second Grand Slam final after finishing runner-up at the US Open 2017.
Keys scored a hat-trick of Australian Open titles to prevent Sabalenka from equaling Martina Hingis. Hingis won three consecutive championships from 1997 to 1999.

Men's singles final between Sinner and Zverev The final match of the men's singles category of the tournament will be played between Janic Siner and Alexander Zverev on Sunday at 2 pm. Zverev got a walkover when Novak Djokovic withdrew. He reached the final of this Grand Slam for the first time. At the same time, World No. 1 Janic Sinner defeated American Ben Shelton.
