West Indies all-rounder Russell will retire: Said- Say goodbye to cricket after two T20 matches, I want to be an example for the next generation

Andre Russell will retire from international cricket. He has announced goodbye to international cricket after the first two T20 matches to be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica against Australia. 37 -year -old Russell has been playing T20 cricket since 2019.

Russell said, 'It has been a matter of pride for me to play for the West Indies. In childhood I never thought I would reach this place. The love of cricket inspired me to be better. I wanted to leave my mark in the West Indies jersey and be an inspiration to others. '

He further said, 'I love to play in front of family and friends at home. I want to end my career with a wonderful performance and set an example for the next generation. '

T20 Series from July 21 against Australia Russell has been included in the T20 team against Australia. The 5 T20 match series starts on July 21. The first and second match will be played at Sabina Park Stadium in Jamaica.

Russell is the West Indies player to quit international cricket in two months after Nicholas Puran. Nicholas Puran has also retired from international cricket on June 9.

Andre Russell has played 141 international matches for the West Indies.

Retirement 7 months before T20 World Cup 2026 Russell is the only player in the team since 2019 to play more than 84 matches. He is going to retire 7 months before the T20 World Cup to be held by India and Sri Lanka in 2026. Russell has won 2 T20 World Cups for the West Indies. Windies won the T20 World Cup title by beating Sri Lanka by 36 runs in 2012 and England by 4 wickets in 2016.

West Indies won their second T20 World Cup in 2016.

In the West Indies cricket change phase, the Test series lost 3-0 West Indies are going through the cricket transition phase. The team was all out for 27 in the second innings of the last Test against Australia on July 14 two days ago.

After this, West Indies Cricket Board officials discussed the changes necessary to revive cricket with Sir Vivian Richards, Clive Lloyd and Brian Lara. In the third Test played at Sabina Park Stadium in Jamaica, the West Indies team lost by 176 runs and a 3-0 clean sweep in the 3-match series.
