The 18th season of the IPL is set to begin on March 22. The opening match will be played in Kolkata between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Both teams have been part of the tournament since its first season in 2008.

This time 10 teams will participate, but there are 5 teams in the 18 -year history of the IPL which is no longer part of the tournament. Sachin Tendulkar has scored his only T20 century against one of them. At the same time, a team disappeared from the tournament even after becoming a champion.

The story of 5 teams disappeared from the IPL …

1. Kochi Tuscars Kerala Sachin's century came against KTK

The Rendezvas Sports World Company bought the Kochi team in 2010 for Rs 1555 crore. In the 2011 season, the number of teams was increased from 8 to 10. Kochi was the ninth team of the tournament. Under the captaincy of Mahela Jayawardene, the team consisted of star players like Brendon McCullum, Ravindra Jadeja, Muthaiya Muralitharan, RP Singh and Sreesanth. Nevertheless, the team was able to win only 6 matches out of 14 and could not reach the playoffs at the eighth place in the points table.

Kochi played only one season, but cricket Lord Sachin Tendulkar scored the only century of his T20 career. On April 15, 2011, the Mumbai Indians scored 182 at Wankhede Stadium with the help of Sachin's century. Although this score was not enough to win the team, Kochi chased the target by losing just 2 wickets in 19 overs. McCullum scored 81 match-winning.

Why did you disappear? Franchise owners could not renew the bank guarantee from the BCCI. The owner had to submit a guarantee in the bank by March 26, 2011. The board waited for about 6 months, but the contract did not receive Rs 156 crore. Due to which the BCCI ended the team at the Annual Meeting on September 19, 2011. All the players on the team were put up for auction so that they would not be harmed.

KTK Chairman Mukesh Patel said that there was no BCCI debt on the franchise. At the same time, the BCCI alleged that the franchise did not pay Rs 156 crore to the board. In July 2015, Justice RC Lahoti ruled in favor of the franchise. The court ordered that the BCCI will give Rs 550 crore as compensation to the team. The franchise sought a return to the IPL in exchange for returns, but the BCCI did not re -enter the team.

2. Pune Warriors India

Chris Gayle's naughty century

Sahara India has paid the Pune -based franchise in 2010 about Rs. 1,700 crore was purchased. Pune Warriors India was the 10th team to join the 2011 IPL. Players like Yuvraj Singh, Sourav Ganguly and Aaron Finch led the team. Players like Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Steve Smith, Bhubaneswar Kumar and Ashish Nehra were part of Pune. Nevertheless, the team was able to win only 26% of the matches in 3 seasons. The team finished eighth or ninth.

There was nothing special in the PWI tournament, but a record against it became certain. On April 23, 2013, the team played a match against RCB in Bengaluru. In this match, RCB opener Chris Gayle scored just 30 balls. He scored 175 off 66 balls with 13 fours and 17 sixes. To date, no player has been able to score a bigger score in T20 history. RCB scored 263 runs in 20 overs, the highest score in the IPL for 10 years.

Why did you disappear? Pune franchise owner Subrat Roy could not renew a bank guarantee of Rs 170.2 crore in 2013. Its deadline was May 2, the BCCI waited until May 20 and then transferred the previous guarantee money to his account. After the BCCI's move, Subrata Roy withdrew his team's name from the IPL. On October 26, the BCCI also ended the Pune Warriors.

“When he bought the team in 2010, the BCCI signed a contract for 18 league matches every season, but the team was forced to play only 14-16 matches in the 3 seasons,” said Subrata. Kochi also opposed this. The BCCI team is reducing the number of matches and instead of compensating now, the bank guarantee is transferring to its account. Being a professional board, this is wrong, so it doesn't make sense to be a part of the tournament. ' After this, Sahara did not renew Team India's sponsorship.

3. Deccan Chargers won the title in another year

Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited (DHCL) Deccan Chargers Franchise Rs. 1000 crores. The team has been part of the tournament since its first season in 2008. The best season of Deccan came in 2009, when the tournament was played in South Africa. The team then made it fourth and made it to the semifinals. Under Gilchrist's captaincy, the team won the title by beating Delhi in the semifinal and Bengaluru in the final. The team also reached the semifinals in the 2010 season but lost to Chennai. Apart from these 2 seasons, the team was ranked 7th or 8th every time.

Why did you disappear? In June 2012, the news came that DHCL was planning to sell its franchise. Until August, the team could not even pay some of its players. The BCCI warned them of paying their salary as soon as possible. The franchise under debt offered to sell the team in September after the BCCI was approved.

On September 14, the BCCI finished the franchise. The board said that franchises could not pay their players and their debt related to the tournament is also increasing. The team could not even renew a bank guarantee of Rs 100 crore. The franchise contacted the High Court with a time consuming time by October to pay the loan.

On October 12, 2012, the BCCI officially ended the Deccan Chargers. The tender was also issued on October 14 to buy the team. On October 25, Sun TV Network Limited Bought the Hyderabad Franchise for 5 years for Rs 425 crore. The team was named Sunrisers Hyderabad. Deccan Chargers players became part of the Sunrisers Team in 2013.

In July 2020, the DHCL group won the court case against BCCI. The court ordered the board to pay a compensation of Rs 4814 crore to the DHCL group. BCCI contacted the Supreme Court. In June 2021, it was decided that the franchise was entitled to only Rs 36 crore as a return. However, this did not pave the way for the Deccan Chargers to return to the IPL.

4. Gujarat Lions

Points in the first season topped in the table

In 2016, Keshav Bansal, the owner of the Interest Technologies, bought the Gujarat Lions. The Rajkot -based franchise played both seasons under the captaincy of Suresh Raina. Gujarat retains players like Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Smith, McCullum and Dwayne Bravo. The team also included star players like Ishaan Kishan, Dinesh Karthik, Aaron Finch.

Gujarat was at the top of the points table in the first season. The team won 9 matches, but lost 2 playoffs. Gujarat lost to Bengaluru in Qualifier-1 and Hyderabad in Qualifier-2. In the second and last season, the team was only able to win 4 matches and finished 7th in the points table.

Why did you disappear? Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for 2 seasons after being trapped in a match -fixing scandal in 2016. In the IPL, 2 new teams were given a chance. One of these was Gujarat Lions. In 2018, Chennai and Rajasthan returned, which ended the tour of the Lions. The Gujarat -based franchise entered the IPL in 2022, but was owned by CVC Capitals. For this reason the team was named Gujarat Titans.

5. Rising Pune Supergiants

The difference of 1 run did not let them become champions

In 2016, Sanjeev Goenka of RPSG Group bought a Pune -based franchise. He named the team Rising Pune Supergiants. In the first season, the team entered under MS Dhoni's captaincy. Players like Ajinkya Rahane, Faf du Plessis, Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Kevin Peterson, Ravi Ashwin were part of the team. Nevertheless, the team was able to win only 5 out of 14 matches in the first season and finished 7th in 8 teams. Smith captained next season and delivered the team to the playoff. The team defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in Qualifier-1 and made it to the final.

In the final, Pune faced against Mumbai. The team limited the MI to 129. Pune's score was 119/3 after 19 overs. Needed 13 runs off 6 balls, Mitchell Johnson came to bowl. He gave up 9 off 5 balls. The last ball needed 4 runs, Daniel Christian tried to play the shot but the field dive on the square leg and stopped the ball on the boundary. Fielder threw the ball, Christian tried to take the third run. Despite being very close to the win, RPSG lost the chance of becoming a champion with a 1 -run margin.

Why did you disappear? Like Gujarat Lions, Rising Pune Supergiants were also made part of IPL for only 2 seasons. The team replaced a franchise, CSK and RR. Therefore, in 2018 the two returned to the RPSG trip. However, franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka bought the IPL team in Lucknow in 2022. He named the team Lucknow Supergiants. This team could not even win the title.
