The franchise has many options
Apart from KL Rahul, Axar Patel is also in the Delhi camp in the next IPL season. Former Proteas star Faf du Plessis has also been included in the team at a base price of 2 crores. The three have experience to lead the team to the top position. However, Faf is a little more experienced in this regard. He has also led the country’s team for a long time. He has also led different teams in the franchise cricket. He has also served as the captain of RCB in the last 2-3 seasons. And all three can play with a fierce temperament while batting. Delhi Capitals bought Rahul in the auction for 14 crores. On the other hand, Axar has been playing for Delhi since joining this franchise in 2019. This time, the team has also retained him.

Axar can become the captain
In a recent interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Delhi Capitals owner Partha Jindal said, “Axar has been associated with our team for a long time. He was also the vice-captain last season. He has also led in several matches. So Axar can become the captain. But we have not taken any decision on this yet. There is still a lot of time. I have also spoken to Rahul through messages. But I have not met him yet. If we meet, we will discuss and decide later.”

Partha also said, “Rahul is a very good friend of mine. We have known each other for a long time. He is a Bengaluru boy. And I am also managing Bengaluru FC in the ISL as an owner. Rahul has watched many matches with me. I know his wife Athiya very well. They are like family friends of ours. Rahul is very happy to join Delhi Capitals.”

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants have picked up Rishabh Pant from the auction as a replacement for Rahul. The star keeper-batsman was added to their team for Rs 27 crore. Amidst the auction, the Lucknow captain admitted that the franchise had exceeded the budget allocated for Pant. Lucknow owner Sanjiv Goenka’s son Shashwat told PTI, “He was in our plan. We had kept around Rs 26 crore for him. So Rs 27 crore is a bit high. But we are very happy to have him in the team. He is a great cricketer, a team man, a match winner. I am sure all our supporters will be very happy to have him in Lucknow team.
