Will Samson be Dhoni's new successor?: CSK could trade Sanju in Rajasthan in exchange for his captain Ruturaj; Team official said- We are thinking about it

The way of trading players in the IPL has opened. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wants to include Sanju Samson, captain and wicketkeeper batter of Rajasthan Royals. However, so far CSK has not had any official conversations with Royals Management.

Talking to Creekbz, a senior CSK official said, “We are definitely thinking of Sanju. He is an Indian opener, a wicketkeeper, and if he is available, we will definitely consider bringing it out.” However, it is not yet decided which player will be traded instead.

As a captain, Sanju Samson took Rajasthan to the IPL final in 2022 after 14 years.

CSK can leave the Senju in exchange for Sanju In IPL 2025, Sanju Samson was the first player retaining by Rajasthan for Rs 18 crore. At the same time, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was retained in the same amount. In this case, it is natural to discuss the trade between the two. But coach Stephen Fleming has already said that Rituraj has been captained as part of a long -term plan.

Not one but many franchises on Rajasthan Rajasthan Royals recently held a review meeting in London after IPL 2025, coach Rahul Dravid was also present. At the meeting it was believed that many franchisees have shown interest in many players, including Sanju. Apart from Sanju, RR has another wicketkeeper-batter like Dhruv Jurel, who emerged as a valuable asset for the team.

Sanju is the captain of RR since 2021 Sanju Samson has been part of the Rajasthan Royals setup since 2013 and made it captain of the team in 2021. This Kerala battery has scored more than 4000 runs in the IPL and has three centuries in the name. In his first season as Royals as captain in 2021, he scored 484 runs, including his first IPL in his first IPL match as captain.

Methods of trading in IPL, understand in 3 points

1. The trading window opens 2 times

  • Up to 7 days after the auction of IPL 2026 to 7 days after the end of IPL 2025.
  • From the day after the auction of IPL 2026 to the 30 days before the start of IPL 2026.

2. What are the rules of the trade?

  • NOC is required for foreign players.
  • Trade of players purchased in the auction cannot be done that year.
  • One player can only be traded once per season.
  • Trade amounts will not be counted within the franchise salary limit, but will be counted in the player's salary.
  • The buyer will be responsible for the franchise player's fitness.

3. Trade methods

  • Direct Trade- Exchange players without any extra money.
  • Increase from negotiation- If a player's salary increases, it is shared between the player and the sales team. After this, the player will make a new contract.
  • Reduce from negotiation- If the buyer team takes the player at a low fee, the seller team will pay the difference. But the player's salary will not decrease.
  • Voluntary pay cuts- If the player himself agrees to take a low fee, then this trade is possible, if the BCCI gets a written consent. If the BCCI finds any irregularities in this, it can cancel the trade.

Manoj Badale will make a final decision Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale will make a final decision on trading. So far, he and team officials have not received any reply sent on mobile. It is likely that even if Sanju Samson is trading, it will be possible only if Rajasthan gets a player of the same value in return. In this case, CSK may have to prepare a large offer.
