Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri made history on Saturday by becoming the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the Indian Super League (ISL). Chhetri’s incredible performance led Bengaluru FC to a thrilling 4-2 win over Kerala Blasters.
At 40 years and 126 days old, Chhetri broke the previous record held by Bartholomew Ogbeche, who scored a hat-trick for Hyderabad FC in January 2023 at the age of 38 years and 96 days.
Chhetri, who retired from international football earlier this year, showcased his brilliance by scoring in the 8th, 73rd, and 90+8th minutes of the match. His hat-trick was crucial in Bengaluru’s victory, with Ryan Williams adding another goal for the team in the 38th minute.
Kerala Blasters fought back with goals from Jesus Jimenez in the 56th minute and Freddy Lallawmawma in the 67th, but Chhetri’s heroics ensured Bengaluru emerged victorious.
Chhetri’s record-breaking performance further cements his legacy as one of India’s greatest footballers and a true inspiration for young players across the country.
